Ninja Gaiden Sigma Review
Ryu Hayabusa is back to slice and dice his way to victory, in his Playstation3 debut Ninja Gaiden: Sigma, Team Ninja have ported this gem of gaming to the PS3 with good reason prepare yourself to be amazed. Graphics
There have been new additions to the “enemy” characters this time round, they’re as deadly as they were on the Xbox360 if not more so. However the existing characters have been massively overhauled. Even at the fast pace that the game moves, the enemies that appear in the game don’t lose any of their detail or awesome looks!!! Not just in regards to texture resolution boosts but their overall design as well. The graphics are second to none and as one of the first games for the Playstation 3 to be released it set a high bar in relation to the awesomeness.
Gameplay
The gameplay in Ninja Gaiden: Sigma the video game is extremely fast-paced, I would even go as far as to say it’s faster than the more recent Tekken games and that is a real comparison. It's very quick and requires a lot of dexterity to handle, this is a game for people who strive for a challenge, a game that is so fast paced you’ll need more than 2 opposable thumbs in order to compete it. The original game release appeared on the Xbox360 format and it must be side even this pale’s in comparison to this version as everything has been updated and brought hurtling through the time warp and into the blood thirsty 21st century.In the PS3 version there is a new addition to the game, by means of a new character. Rachel, a Fiend Hunter who made various appearances in the first game, but only as a non-playable character. As with all Japanese efforts there are one thing in which stand out from the rest and that is Rachel’s massive and unmissable asset…………..Yep, her warhammer. Not being sexist but a woman of her stature should not be able to wield such an unrelenting weapon, but does so with the greatest of ease. However, she is quite frustrating to play with when you are used to the fast paced action of Ryu. She is more cumbersome and relatively slow when it comes to her attacks. Don’t let me get away from the fact however that she is as powerful just takes longer for her to do it.
In respect to the difficulty levels in this game don’t expect the Devil May Cry 3 nonsense where the difficulty gets dulled down to fit in with the greatest hits release. This by no means has been “dummied” down to attract a more subdued crowd, quite the contrary. It still has the continuous hoards of enemies coming at you and the mix of bosses with similarly difficult minions and that is on normal mode. It is even more blood curdlingly difficult anywhere over that.The only slight qualm with the Gameplay is the less than ideal camera angles in which you find yourself trying to battle not only the enemies but also the camera as well. Thankfully the game is encompassed with open areas which really isn’t a problem in fact it is ideal. However, if you find yourself fighting in close quarters you find such unflattering camera angles as looking up from you feet or a close up of his rippling abs instead of seeing what you are fighting.
Sound
The eerie soundtrack which I can only put down to Japanese tribal-like tunes, and the status-quo electronica-rock. I find the soundtrack very fitting and really can’t imagine anything else that could tie in as well with the concept of the game.
Completion
I’m going to be honest I was abit green when I first attempted this game. However as I went along thinking to myself “aw this is easy” something comes along and I underestimate and I’m dead. However this made me more determined and it quite possibly took me longer to complete the levels and game than it probably did for others out there but all round I became accustomed to it and eventually got there.
For this game because I am a massive fan of it give it a 5/5 and look forward to the new Sigma 2 that has been developed for the PS3 to be released and I will be at one with myself again.
